THB hotels at the forefront of sustainability in the hospitality sector with circularity plans in all our destinations

    AUGUST

THB hotels is delighted to announce a landmark achievement in our industry: we are the first hotel chain to introduce circularity plans in all our destinations.

This initiative reflects major progress in our commitment to sustainability and is an active response to the environmental regulations in each region we operate in.

What is a circularity plan and what does it consist of?

A Circularity Plan is a document containing the priorities and action lines defined by each property. It includes planning, consumption and production directives, as well as the circular commitment for its business strategy, internal processes and relations with its principal stakeholders.

It includes the circular planning, which outlines the action lines and necessary operations, as well as the circular assessment, which measures the progress made with the circularity strategy.

The Circularity Plan is made up of the methodology, the application of the diagnosis, the strategic framework or the procedure used to carry out the circular assessment.

How we implemented the circularity plans

The training and quality departments worked with the various internal teams in order to explain and apply our innovative circularity plan. We held a series of meetings and informative sessions to highlight the importance of this strategy and offer an insight into the specific projects we are carrying out that will guarantee its effectiveness.

Our workspace is an internal data management software developed in-house that enables us to closely monitor and analyse our environmental footprint, amongst numerous other functionalities. The workspace also includes the “sustainability indicator dashboard,” a key tool in this process featuring cutting-edge technologies such as smart scale systems for waste.

Below are some of our key circular projects:

    - Elimination of single-use plastics: We have adopted measures to eliminate single-use plastics and promote sustainability. We have replaced capsule coffee makers for machines that use ground coffee, and have eliminated plastic straws, introducing biodegradable or reusable alternatives. As for our catering services, we have swapped individual portions of items, such as jams, for unpackaged products. The bathrooms have now been fitted with refillable gel and shampoo dispensers, which has considerably reduced our use of plastic packaging.

    - Water control and optimisation: We manage water efficiently and responsibly, introducing cutting-edge systems to control and optimise its use. Ongoing monitoring and the use of innovative technologies guarantee our efficient and sustainable consumption of this essential resource. Practices such as these enable us to cut water wastage, reduce our impact on the environment and guarantee the responsible management of all our operations.

    - Salt swimming pools: Our salt swimming pools are a natural and sustainable alternative. They do not generate waste or cause allergies, and therefore offer a healthy and environmentally-friendly bathing experience. What’s more, they are far gentler on swimwear fabrics, underpinning our commitment to environmentally responsible practices.

    - Smart weighing: We have introduced a smart weighing system for all the waste generated at our facilities. This innovation enables us to sort waste by type and location, facilitating more efficient management and the introduction of effective strategies for reducing waste production.

    - Bulk wine: We now purchase bulk wine in barrels, resulting in significant reductions in our use of glass and plastic packaging. This measure not only improves the sustainability of our operations, but also enriches our guests’ experience thanks to the use of more authentic and environmentally-friendly produce.

In addition to these specific initiatives, we have also made major investments in infrastructures such as solar panels and energy-efficient equipment. We are aware that circularity requires a considerable effort in financial terms, yet we remain firmly committed to the transition towards a more sustainable model.

At THB hotels, we not only work hard to deliver memorable experiences for our guests, but we are also committed to conserving the natural and cultural environments of all the destinations we operate in. We will continue to lead the drive towards more responsible and sustainable practices in the hotel industry.
