THB hotels joins International Beach Cleanup Day with a sustainable commitment

    SEPTEMBER

    20

    dia-mundial-limpieza-de-playas-2024>
Every year, on the third Saturday in September, 157 countries come together with a shared goal: to clean up the world’s polluted coasts and beaches.
This initiative, organised by entities such as Ocean Conservancy, has mobilised millions of volunteers around the world since it was launched back in 1986. Each year, tons of rubbish are removed from beaches, rivers and seas in a global effort to reduce marine pollution.

The amount of waste that ends up in the sea is a matter of great concern. An estimated 8 million tons of plastic enter the oceans each year, the equivalent of dumping a rubbish truck full of plastic in the sea every minute. This waste not only affects marine life, but also damages the coastal landscape, endangering ecosystems and the local economy of tourist destinations.

THB hotels is a firm supporter of initiatives of this type, as we believe it is vital to protect, respect, value and care for our beaches. Our coastlines are not just an essential natural resource, but also a symbol of our destinations that it is our duty to conserve for future generations.

Below are just a few of the actions we carry out and that affect the health of our beaches, directly or indirectly:

    - We have implemented policies for the elimination of single-use plastics in our hotels, significantly reducing the risk of these materials ending up on beaches or in the sea. From straws and cups to hygiene products, we have introduced sustainable alternatives that benefit both our guests and the environment.

    - With our dual training programme, THB College, we run field trips and training in collaboration with specialised entities such as Emaya and Tirme. These training actions help to raise awareness among our students and future employees regarding sustainable practices, waste management and the protection of the natural environment, ensuring that all our staff are on board with THB hotels’ eco-goals.

    - We collaborate with associations that work for the conservation of the environment, such as the Tursiops Association. This organisation works tirelessly for the conservation of marine biodiversity, focusing its efforts on the protection of sperm whales and other endangered marine species. Our collaboration consists of providing support for research and conservation initiatives. The most recent is the Balearic Sperm Whale Project, a study centred on this species.

    - Our employees, suppliers and customers are all part of our commitment. We encourage the responsible use of resources, recycling and water conservation, by promoting a culture based on respect for the environment both inside and outside our hotels.

    -
We organise and play an active role in beach cleanup sessions in the destinations we operate in, working with volunteers and local organisations to eliminate waste and reduce pollution on our coasts.

    - To mark this important date on the calendar, we have launched a special prize draw. The aim is to encourage our guests and followers to adopt sustainable practices that reduce the coastal carbon footprint in our destinations. In this sense, THB hotels is positioned as a brand that values its surroundings and promotes responsible tourism.

At THB hotels, we believe that sustainability is a shared responsibility. Our environmental commitment not only enhances our guests’ experience, but also contributes to conserving our marvellous destinations. Let’s continue working together to make tourism even more responsible and sustainable!
