OCTOBER
21
Coinciding with the anniversary of its founding, the UN declared 24th October the International Day of Climate Action. The main aim of this event is to raise awareness among the population of the devastation climate change is wreaking on our planet.
Here at THB hotels, we are aware of the impact we cause and are therefore working to reduce our footprint. In 2017, we created our ECO Friendly brand and since then we have worked consistently to maximise efficiency through the introduction of measures across our full range of services:
Renewal of our ISO9001 and ISO 14.001 standards certificatesEach year we work hard to renew our ISO9001 and ISO 14.001 standards certificates. The world’s most widely acknowledged ISO quality and environment regulations, they enable us to guarantee the following:
- Environmental protection that will benefit current and future generations.
- Minimisation of contaminating waste.
- Reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
- Water and energy savings.
Reduction of plasticsIn line with the latest regulations forbidding the use of single-use plastics, we have introduced the following changes:
- Replacement of plastic packaging for textile bags.
- Elimination of plastic bottles and the use of cardboard alternatives.
- Use of dispensers for gel, shampoo and oil, etc., instead of single-dose sachets.
- Provision of paper straws and biodegradable cups.
- Paper bags instead of hygiene and laundry bags.
ECO friendly corners in our hotelsAll our hotels have ECO Friendly information points, which we use to raise awareness among both customers and employees regarding the importance of saving water, energy efficiency and recycling, to name just a few of the environmental issues we address.
Energy saving materialsWe are continuing to work towards the energy efficiency of our buildings through the use of energy saving materials:
- Room automation systems to control and programme on/off power switches for devices.
- LED bulb lighting.
- Installation of solar panels.
- Heat recovery systems for the air conditioning machinery to heat all the hot water used in the hotel.
We work with environmental associationsEvery year, we collaborate with associations that are fighting for a more sustainable world. Our contribution comes in the form of joint actions aimed at raising awareness. Our latest initiative was the Beach Clean at Playa de na Patana (Can Picafort), where we collected 11 kg of marine litter with the help of 40 volunteers from the NGOs Ambiente Europeo and the Ocean Conservancy.
Although we are proud of the improvements we have made so far, we are fully aware that there is still a long way to go and we are therefore committed to doing everything we can to contribute to changing the direction our planet is heading in.
